Follow these steps.

  1. Calculate $3000\div3$3000÷​3.

  2. Calculate $2700\div3$2700÷​3.

  3. Calculate $240\div3$240÷​3.

  4. Calculate $18\div3$18÷​3.

  5. Using the fact that $5958=3000+2700+240+18$5958=3000+2700+240+18, calculate $5958\div3$5958÷​3.

Remember!

As our number gets larger, we need to work through more steps in our division, but the process is still the same. If we can't share into equal groups, we end up with a remainder.
