6.05 Finding unknowns

Lesson

Are you ready?

Remembering your multiplication tables will help you solve problems in this lesson. Let's give this problem a try.

$5\times9$5×9

Learn

This video shows us how to find unknowns using our multiplication and division facts.

Apply

Fill in the box with the missing number.

  1. $9\times\editable{}=63$9×=63

Remember!

For multiplication the order doesn't matter, so if we have $4\times5$4×5, we can also write it as $5\times4$5×4 and get the same answer.

Outcomes

3.OA.A.4

Determine the unknown whole number in a multiplication or division equation relating three whole numbers.

3.OA.B.6

Understand division as an unknown-factor problem.

3.OA.C.7

Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g. Knowing that 8 × 5 = 40, one knows 40 ÷ 5 = 8) or properties of operations. By the end of grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers.
