Why is teaching maths important to you?

Maths is important to everyone. It enables us to make sense of the world around us. It helps us to find and represent patterns. It allows us to interact with the world and other people. I love to share the moments when students make breakthroughs in their understanding.

Why is teaching maths important to you?

I see teaching mathematics as a way to help students open doors of understanding and develop analytical thinking skills that will help them develop their future careers in a wide range of areas. Mathspace is a wonderful tool to allow students self-directed learning and to identify and rectify gaps in their current understanding. It has changed the way I teach Mathematics.

Why is teaching maths important to you?

Teaching mathematics builds students' confidence in problem-solving and reasoning, and connects numeracy to everyday life. I love witnessing students flourish when the concept they once found challenging becomes an easier one to comprehend.

Why is teaching maths important to you?

Mathematics can be fun and self propelling when you get it, rising and meeting the challenge and experiencing success however it is important to know when you are getting it wrong. It is so important to know when you are making a mistake so that you don't practice it (learnt mistakes take more effort to undo). Knowing when you make a mistake can help you decide it is time to STOP until you get the assistance you need. Try and leave enough working out and I might be able to guide you to where the error has occurred. Mathematics also is a language, just as English has grammar rules such as full stops to end the sentence and leave a space and start the new sentence with a Capital letter, so too Mathematics has a structure or rules that need to be followed.

Why is teaching maths important to you?

Mathematics is my go to. It's a way to relax. Mathematics (including statistics!! I love statistics) is fundamental to everything we do, so my aim in teaching is to stimulate interest in the beauty, the mystery and its application in the real world.

A focus on developing a student’s confidence through experiencing guided success, as they develop their mathematical knowledge and thinking skills irrespective of curriculum level, is the key to a student being positively engaged in mathematics studies. Creating a caring, accepting, happy environment where children can thrive, is imperative to all learning

Why is teaching maths important to you?

Being a maths teacher is an exciting career because the more you understand the subject the more you see that it is a critical life skill. Through teaching the students to take logical steps and problem-solve, I can help my students find new ways to develop their creative and analytical abilities as well as think critically about the world around us. One of the most exciting parts of teaching Maths is that I encourage students to not be afraid of making mistakes, I work with them to support them to learn from their mistakes by identifying the logical errors in their problem-solving. Recent neurological research shows that making mistakes and learning from them grows the brain.

Why is teaching maths important to you?

The regular check-ins with Math Space provided ‘real-time’ data for the students and for me as their Math teacher. These formative assessments, coupled with classwork and student participation, formed the basis for my weekly meetings with individual students. Teaching the students how to navigate the platform to access ‘their’ data empowered them. The students confidently articulated their focus areas as we tailored learning goals, success criteria and routines to suit their individual needs.
