Identify and describe outcomes

Lesson

In everyday life, we can't always say that things will definitely happen. For example, if it is cloudy one day, we can't be sure that it will definitely rain.

In maths we look at events or run experiments and work out how likely it is that a result (outcome) will happen. To do this, we need to know every outcome that could happen. The video below will take you through how we work this out.

Key words in probability
  • Experiment: a test run on an action where the result is uncertain
  • Outcome: a result of an experiment

Outcomes

7.DH.DH.4

Feel of probability using data through experiments. Notion of chance in events like tossing coins, dice etc. Tabulating and counting occurrences of 1 through 6 in a number of throws. Comparing the observation with that for a coin.Observing strings of throws, notion of randomness.
