Partition Numbers (10000 to 50000)

By partitioning numbers, or breaking them into çhunks, it can help us solve different number problems.   There are lots of ways in which we can partition our numbers, so take a look at this video to see three different ways to partition your numbers.

Which was your favourite way to partition a number?  I like the pictures method best!

You can break numbers up in lots of different ways and still keep the same value.

 

Worked Examples

Question 1

Fill in the box with the missing number.

  1. $44263=40000+\editable{}$44263=40000+

Question 2

Use partitioning to fill in the missing number.

  1. $49735=49000+\editable{}$49735=49000+

Question 3

Express $20603$20603 in expanded form. For example, $2045$2045 in expanded form is $2000+40+5$2000+40+5.
