Some ways to build our multiplication skills include:

  • making arrays to show equal sized groups 
  • noticing patterns, such as doubling and skip-counting

  • multiplying by $9$9
  • multiplying by $10$10

Remember!

There are different ways to solve multiplication, including repeated addition and using arrays. We can also multiply our numbers in a different order, so $3\times4$3×4  has the same answer as $4\times3$4×3.

Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g. Knowing that 8 × 5 = 40, one knows 40 ÷ 5 = 8) or properties of operations. By the end of grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers.
