There are lots of tools you can use to help you add and subtract numbers.  A number line is one of those tools.

If you do enough practise, you might be able to add and subtract by picturing a number line in your head!  Until then, you can use these tips to help you.

Tips for Success

When adding to a number, jump forward (to the right).

When subtracting from a number, jump backwards (to the left).

  1. First place the bigger of $4$4 and $7$7 on the number line.
