Fractions in areas

Lesson

Area and shapes

When we divide shapes into equal parts, we have seen how the parts can be described using fractions. We can also use this to describe the area of part of our shape.

Even if we have shapes that are irregular or odd, we can still describe the area of parts of those shapes, if we think about what fraction of the shape we are looking at.

Let's see how we can describe the area of some shapes we know, as well as some shapes that are, well, a little random!

Remember!

If our shape doesn't have equal parts, we can still estimate the area for parts of our shape.
