Variables on Both Sides I

Lesson

We looked at how to rearrange number values to solve equations. Now we're going to look at what to do when we have algebraic terms on both sides of the equation. Basically it's the same process. We want to group the like terms, so we have all the pronumerals on one side and all the numbers on the other. Then we can solve the equation.

Examples

Question 1

Solve the following equation: $6x-20=x$6x20=x

Question 2

Solve the following equation: $8x-36=4x$8x36=4x

Question 3

Find the solution for the following equation: $3\left(x+6\right)=x$3(x+6)=x

Outcomes

NA5-7

Form and solve linear and simple quadratic equations
