Before we begin looking at ordering numbers, and working out which numbers are the largest or smallest we need to remember how to identify the value of the digits in our number.
Enter the value for the underlined digit.
Another word that we can use to describe the ones place is 'units'.
Let's look at how to use a number line to order numbers from smallest to largest, and largest to smallest.
We want to work out which of $2$2 numbers is the largest.
Which of the number lines has $429$429 and $424$424 plotted correctly?
Write the two numbers from smallest to largest.
$\editable{},\editable{}$,
We can also use place value to order numbers, and this video includes an example of how we do that.
Order these numbers from smallest to largest.
$36,33,63$36,33,63
$\editable{},\editable{},\editable{}$,,
$682,268,628$682,268,628
$\editable{},\editable{},\editable{}$,,
When we use place value to order numbers, always start with the far left digit and think about the digit's place value.
Compare the hundreds, then the tens, and then the ones.
