10.09 Volume of composite prisms

Lesson

Are you ready?

Do you remember how to find the volume of a rectangular prism?

Find the volume of the rectangular prism shown.

Learn

Some shapes aren't rectangular prisms, but can be broken up into two or more sections which are rectangular prisms. We can then find the volume of each prism separately by multiplying the height, length, and width together, and then add these volumes to find the total volume of the original shape.

Make sure to find the correct values for the height, length, and width of each prism. You may need to add or subtract values shown on the diagram to find some of the lengths.
